Belize is a stunningly beautiful country located on the eastern coast of Central America, sharing borders with Mexico and Guatemala. The country has just under 400,000 citizens and spans over 8,000 square miles. Many people head to Belize as a tourist destination because of its beautiful access to the Caribbean and world-renowned snorkeling and scuba diving. Like many Central American countries, poverty, access to clean water and healthcare, and limited opportunities for differently-abled children are common struggles in Belize. Disabled children in rural villages often face the greatest struggles, and many of them rarely or never leave their homes because of fear and shame surrounding their disabilities. Thankfully, efforts are growing to combat these issues.
